What is Pet Bereavement?

Pet Bereavement is a path that guides us through the guilt, anger, despair and alientation that can be caused by the loss of a beloved companion.  It allows us to grieve our loss while still living in the outside world of everyday affairs.  It recognizes that the grief we are feeling is 'normal' and valid.

There are many situations in which we grieve the loss of a much loved companion and family member. Death through old age, illness, accident or sadly economic conditions sever the ties that bind our hearts to our beloved animal friends.

While each loss is different, the grief remains and we often have no place to turn when our friends, family and colleagues tire of hearing our stories of lost love and abandoned dreams.

Without an understanding of the grieving process and a recognition that what we are feeling is normal, we can spiral into depression or distance ourselves from well-intentioned people in our lives who simply do not know how to respond to our broken hearts.
