The Halifax Kennel Club (HKC) hosts two series of Conformation Shows & Obedience Trials yearly in February and September. The September series of shows often host Specialties & Boosters for National Clubs wishing to responsibly promote their breeds and educate the general public.
For information on our upcoming shows/trials in September, please click the September Shows/Trials link and also the Specialties link.
These activities are held to showcase purebred breeding programs; to responsibly promote, protect the future of purebred dogs; and, to educate the general public on the joys and responsibility of dog ownership.
In the early 1980's, the Halifax Kennel Club, under the direction of the late Michael McDonald, formed an Obedience Drill Team. Although the team was disbanded for a short time, it has been serving the community consistently since 1987. For further Club history on the Awards and recipients, please visit the History link on the right hand side of your screen.
The Drill Team performs on a regular basis during the spring and/or the fall months at local Extended Care facilities and Hospitals. The Team provides pet visitation sessions after each performance and has also the distinction of being one of the longest running programs of its kind in Nova Scotia. For more information on the Drill Team, contact Lynne MacLellan
