The Halifax Kennel Club was incorporated by the Nova Scotia Legislature on April 6th, 1944. The Halifax Kennel Club pledges to promote and encourage the welfare of the purebred dog: to use its best efforts to guard the interests of the owners and breeders of the purebred dog, insofar as canine matters are concerned; to conduct shows, tests and field trials; to raise money for the purpose of the Club by giving of any entertainment and holding of fairs, exhibitions or shows of any kind.

The Halifax Kennel Club holds 5 Championship Dog Shows and Obedience Trials per year at Exhibition Park during February and September. H.K.C. provides its Membership a Mailing List in order to be in touch between meetings & a monthly Newsletter (delivered via email, snail mail or online) which keeps them up to date with the Minutes of Club meetings, wins & brags, show results and relevant articles of interest to the fancy.

Our members also provide obedience demonstrations and pet visitations for the patients and staff of local Extended Care facilities. The elderly and the shut-ins really enjoy the benefits of having the canines visit on an annual basis. HKC also supports other worthy causes - the Regional Junior Handlers' competition, Dog Legislation Council of Canada, the Atlantic Veterinary College, SPCA, and the 'Adopt A Vet' program.
